Saturday night was another spectacular night of street outreach in the City
of God favela. A couple of our team spent some time in the afternoon passing out advertising fliers with the some of the kids in the favela to announce the event that evening. Then, the team arrived early to set up the outdoor theater screen in an alleyway outside the church, mere yards away from all the favela street action.
The team ministered through a series of dramas and dance with Stephanie and Michelle sharing their testimonies. The hearts of the crowd were captured during the showing the film “Magdalena”, which portrays the compassionate heart of Jesus from the viewpoint of Mary Magdalena.
Pastor Mary Pat gave a powerful Gospel message sharing about how Jesus came to break the chains of addiction and unforgiveness. Many raised their hands to pray for salvation. She then shared about the healing power of Jesus, and a number of people raised their hands indicating that the Lord had touched their bodies. Then, Pastor Mary Pat felt led to lead them in a prayer to forgive those who had hurt them and step into more healing of their hearts.
We topped the night off by passing out ice cream to all, made by our Brazilian team member’s mother’s business. It was delicious and refreshing!
