Soup kitchen in Heliopolis
Wednesday, we headed to the area where Iris Ministries serves the community by daily providing hearty soup for whoever is in need. (We are eating our lunches there as well while living here!) Peter and Deanne helped ladle out the soup, and Peter’s voice was useful to call the people in! We split into two SEALS (ministry) groups and walked through the rows of houses, greeting the people and offering prayer for healing or other needs. It was great to see how peoples’ faces would light up when they realized we remembered them and cared enough to come back. We spent about four hours with the people, and got in a lot of quality interaction with the children. They are so lovable, but don’t ordinarily see love demonstrated toward them in their daily lives.
