A small team had the opportunity to go on a 3 1/2 week trip to India from March 10th through April 1st. With only five team members going on this particular trip, it was quite different from the 20+ member teams, allowing greater flexibility and ability to quickly develop solid relationships with nationals.
We first started our adventure in the city of Trichur in Kerala state, located on the southwestern region along the Indian Ocean. We spent most of our time at Voice of Gospel (VOG), a ministry directed by Pastor Daniel and Lily. Their ministry has 225 churches in association and more than one Bible school. We taught several classroom sessions, preached during their Sunday services, and spent time with the students, faculty, and church members, often outside scheduled services.
VOG has 13 mercy homes which provide housing and support for a variety of needy people. We visited two homes to share God’s heart with those living there. One was dedicated to helping the mentally insane, providing a loving environment as opposed to being neglected by society. Many of these had been living normal lives, but at one point were frightened by demonic powers to the extent that they lost their minds. Many had attempted suicide and have been disowned by friends and family but are now finding healing and recovery.
A unique relationship was formed between our team and an Indian family, originating with their request that we come to their home to pray for their son who was having difficulties with epileptic seizures. Not only did we pray for Rohan, the son, but also the entire household, seeing several receive instant healing such as the mother whose pain from arthritis ended immediately.
